How to treat pyelonephritis?

What is pyelonephritis and how does it happen?

Pyelonephritis is a disease of the kidneys, which is characterized by the presence of inflammation against the background of a bacterial infection. The disease is one-sided, when one kidney is affected, and two-sided, when both kidneys are affected. Pyelonephritis is one-sided.

Also, pyelonephritis is the primary one - developing in previously healthy kidneys, and secondary - developing as a consequence of already existing renal diseases, such as urolithiasis, glomerulonephritis and others.

Pyelonephritis can occur in two forms: acute and chronic.

The main methods of treatment of pyelonephritis are

Treatment of pyelonephritis includes three components, two of which are mandatory, the third is not connected in all cases: diet, treatment with medicinal drugs, surgical intervention. Consider each type of treatment.

Diet with pyelonephritis

When diagnosing pyelonephritis in acute form, the main recommendation is a plentiful drink, the consumption of liquid in large amounts - at least 2 liters per day.

The second most important recommendation is the exclusion from the diet of any unhealthy food - fried, fatty, spicy, and an increase in foods rich in nutrients - fruits and vegetables.

Features of the diet for pyelonephritis are as follows:

Limitation in the use of broths - meat, fish, chicken, etc.

Meat of beef and poultry must be eaten in boiled or baked form.

In the daily diet should be an increased amount of vitamins.

Ensure that the amount of liquid you drink is at least two liters daily.

The restriction in salt intake is less than 8 g per day, especially in the presence of arterial hypertension, often associated pyelonephritis.

Treatment with medicinal preparations

The main direction here is therapy with antibiotics. If the pyelonephritis is in the acute stage, treatment with antibiotics should last 5-14 days, depending on the severity of the disease. Drugs with fluoroquinolones, beta-lektams, cephalosporins, penicillins, inhibitors, etc. are used. These are: Ceftriaxone, Cefazoline, Amoxicillin, Amoxiclav, Augmentin, Ampicillin.

Chronic pyelonephritis in the stage of exacerbation is treated similarly. Treatment consists in arresting an exacerbation and preventing relapse. For this period, it is necessary to undergo antibiotic treatment courses - as intense as in acute pyelonephritis.

Operative intervention

Surgical treatment is not shown in all cases - only in those cases when drug treatment does not bring results. In general, purulent forms of kidney disease - kidney carbuncle, aposteme - are operated. The goal is to prevent the further spread of the purulent process and restore the normal outflow of urine.
