Progesterone: the norm during the luteal phase

Progesterone is a hormone that secretes the gland that is formed after ovulation in the ovaries, in simple terms - the yellow body. This yellow body dies after 14 days if conception has not been produced, thus, menstruation begins.

If conception occurs, the yellow body continues to produce progesterone until the sixteenth week of pregnancy, after which this task falls on the shoulders of the placenta.

Why is progesterone needed?

In addition to the yellow body, the hormone progesterone in a small amount is produced by the adrenal glands, therefore, progesterone is not only in the female body, but also in the male, but its role for women's health is significant enough. This can be explained by the fact that the hormone is preparing the uterine tissues to attach a fertilized egg. In addition, progesterone ensures the preservation of pregnancy. On the nervous system, the hormone also has a beneficial effect, preparing not only for the nine months of pregnancy, but also for childbirth.

Progesterone significantly reduces the risk of rejection of the fetal egg by the uterus, that is, it cautions against miscarriage, intensive growth of the uterus is also in the hands of progesterone. The development and preparation of mammary glands to produce breast milk also does not do without progesterone. As you can see, the hormone is really very important for the female body.

Rates of progesterone in the luteal phase

To determine the level of the hormone progesterone in the blood, a blood test is performed. As is known, the menstrual cycle has several phases, and during each period the content of progesterone is significantly different.

The norm of progesterone in the female body during the luteal phase is 699-5663 pmol /l. The luteal phase is the second half of the cycle. It is during the luteal phase that the maximum content of progesterone in the body is observed - usually the level of the hormone increases tens of times. Otherwise, there is reason to assume that there are any deviations in the female body.
