Pregnancy test. At what time is most effective

You can look forward to the onset of pregnancy, but you can and be afraid of this event in your life. In any case, a pregnancy test can help.

What is HCG?

The mechanism of its conduct is due to the fact that, having formed, the placenta secretes hCG, it is also a hormone of pregnancy, it is also a specific chorionic hormone.

Its goal is to prevent re-pregnancy by blocking the function of the ovaries to produce eggs. Thus, by identifying this hormone, it is possible to carry out early diagnosis of pregnancy, since hCG is the most informative indicator of the presence and course of pregnancy.

HCG is already on the seventh day after the fertilization of the egg begins to be produced by the placenta (chorion tissue).

In the first weeks of pregnancy, the level of hCG gradually increases, increasing twofold every two days, until it reaches about the tenth week of pregnancy maximum concentration. After that, the hCG level starts to decrease smoothly.

With multiple pregnancies, the hCG level increases in direct proportion to the number of fetuses. If the level of hCG is lowered, you may suspect a threat of abortion or ectopic pregnancy.

Glycoprotein hCG is composed of two subunits. At the hospital, the level of the chorionic hormone is assessed by the definition of its unique beta subunit, and in home test strips for the purpose of accelerated pregnancy diagnosis, a less specific test is used.

Testing the level of beta-hCG in the blood within a week and a half after successful fertilization can be diagnosed with pregnancy. However, the level of beta-hCG in the blood is twice as high as in the urine, in which its concentration reaches a sufficient level for determination a day or two later.

The most suitable time for the pregnancy test is

According to the manufacturers of test strips, a few days before the expected date of the onset of menstruation, traces of hCG can be found in the body of a woman, in urine, from the first day of the delay.

However, additional studies did not prove a one-hundred percent guarantee of such a procedure at this time. Only one of eighteen rapid tests for pregnancy, was sensitive enough to determine the level of hCG. This is an insufficient reliability and leads to the question of when it is possible to make a quite reliable pregnancy test.

The same specialists, on the basis of mass trials, recommend that it be conducted approximately six to seven days after the expected date of the onset of menstruation. This time is enough to accumulate enough hCG in the urine, and its concentration reached 25 mIU /ml and above. With this concentration, the test can determine the presence of hCG.

Although a positive answer is possible already on the seventh day after ovulation, false negative results are also met one and a half weeks after ovulation. This is when the test shows one strip, and pregnancy actually is.

In other words, if the test is negative, but menstruation does not begin, you should repeat the test in a couple of days.

One negative result in any case, especially in the early stages, does not mean that you are not pregnant. On the contrary - it's different, the chances are much higher.

The rules for the pregnancy test

For the pregnancy test, some conditions must be met.

  • First of all, check the expiration date of the test on the package.

  • You should buy the new test, and not use the one that was left from the last time and which was influenced by inappropriate conditions, such as high humidity in the bathroom and a number of others.

  • Tests of different manufacturers may differ somewhat by the application method, so be sure to read the instructions. More reliable results are given by a test that is performed on morning urine, only waking up in the morning, when the maximum concentration of hormones takes place.

  • Immediately after sexual intercourse, the pregnancy test is meaningless.
